Description

First things first—we’re checking in on Jim! After a series of eye surgeries and a detached retina, he’s back in the chair (and hopefully healing up nicely). We also get into the great Thanksgiving debate: Turkey vs. BBQ? Let us know in the comments what you’re eating this year! Then, we sit down with up-and-coming writer/director Gonzalo Alatorre to talk about his new short film, "The Chuco Story." Gonzalo opens up about his upbringing as a first-generation Mexican-American in the Central Valley, moving from school to school as a farmworker’s kid, and how the music and movies of the 90s (shout out Blood In Blood Out and Tupac) inspired his work. We dive deep into the reality of independent filmmaking—from writing a script in 24 hours to actors quitting because they didn't want to shave their heads! Plus, Gonzalo talks about his transition from the "wannabe gangster" lifestyle into the Honda street racing scene of the early 2000s.
